However there are risks to be avoided and challenges to be prepared for. We will discuss how to avoid sanctions still in place, considerations specific to Iran, bureaucracy and availability of financial and company information; both from a legal and practical perspective.

Anita Gerdin, Senior Lawyer in our Shipping and Compliance teams, will give an introduction with a recap of the current situation on sanctions and some key points to be aware of from a Norwegian law perspective.

•    Ms. Encyeh Seyed Sadr, partner at Bayan Emrooz Law Firm in Tehran. She has extensive experience in different aspects of commercial law of Iran and has presented legal opinions on international contract, regulatory compliance, and corporate law of Iran. She provides services to clients by granting legal consultation on partnership, joint ventures and licensing agreements and with respect to foreign direct and indirect investment. She is experienced also in renewable energy law in Iran, aviation and intellectual property law.

•    Mr. Gerhard Ludvigsen, chairman of the board of Helma who has set up a 50/50 joint venture with the state owned company Kharg Petrochemical Company. The joint venture’s objective is to produce and export LNG. The parties estimates the value of the joint venture to be around USD 600 million. Mr. Ludvigsen has firsthand experience both on setting up and doing business in Iran.
