Last week, the AI guide ‘AI Assistants in the Workplace – A Practical Guide’ was presented to the Minister of Digitalisation and Public Governance, Karianne Tung. She commissioned the guide as part of the government’s effort to reach its goal of making Norway the world’s most digitalised country by 2030
The guide was developed by the expert group on responsible implementation and use of AI assistants. It aims to support Norwegian businesses seeking to use AI assistants in a responsible and lawful manner. It includes a range of practical examples from leading Norwegian environments on the implementation and operation of AI assistants, as well as an introduction to relevant legislation. Malin Tønseth, an expert on AI compliance and partner at Simonsen Vogt Wiig, was a member of the expert group. As the group’s only legal expert, she contributed guidance on how to succeed with AI assistants within the boundaries of current legal frameworks.
During the handover of the guide to Tung last week, particular attention was given to the need for relevant and accessible guidance for Norwegian businesses striving to keep pace in the digital race and to safeguard innovation and competitiveness. Tung, along with representatives from LO, NHO and the Norwegian Digitalisation Agency (Digdir), discussed various practices related to the use of AI, as well as the shared goal of collectively increasing the use and understanding of AI assistants.
The AI guide is primarily written for use in the workplace – across both the private and public sectors – and is aimed at decision-makers, digitalisation and IT managers, professional and line managers, as well as union and employee representatives who contribute to the organisation’s implementation, adaptation, planning, and operation of AI assistants. The guide addresses key questions that arise at different stages of the process and outlines the assessments that need to be made both prior to and during implementation – from early planning through to deployment and operation.
Simonsen Vogt Wiig at Arendalsuka 2025
Malin Tønseth will also participate when Simonsen Vogt Wiig, in collaboration with IKT Norge, hosts a debate on artificial intelligence in Norwegian businesses during Arendalsuka on Wednesday, 13 August.
The panel will include Minister Karianne Tung, Equality and Anti-Discrimination Ombud Bjørn Erik Thon, and several other key voices in the digitalisation field. The debate will explore how to balance digital innovation with responsibility – including how AI can contribute to development without compromising fundamental rights such as data protection and fairness.
