Insurance Law

Simonsen Vogt Wiig’s Insurance practice handles the full range of contentious and non-contentious work on behalf of both conventional and marine insurers.

This includes advice and litigation in connection with insurance settlements and cover disputes. We also advice in connection with reinsurance agreements.

We assist a large number of international as well as Scandinavian insurers, but also frequently assist international companies pursuing claims against Scandinavian insurers before the Norwegian courts or in arbitration.

A significant part of the work undertaken by the insurance team is in relation to recourse claims. We are assisting international insurers pursuing recourse claims in Norway as well as insurers and policyholders being faced with such claims.

The firm is a recognised leader in marine insurance, and acts for both marine insurers and assureds, on a range of matters such as such as P&I, H&M, cargo, loss of hire, war etc. We frequently assist international insurers and policyholders pursuing direct action claims and cover claims against Norwegian insurers and P& I Clubs.

The firm also advises some of the largest international life and non-life insurers on a range of non-contentious matters. We frequently assist with claims and advice in relation to various D&O covers.

We are the only major, full-service firm in Norway with a standalone personal injury insurance team.

The insurance team has argued several of the landmark cases before the Norwegian Supreme Court in recent years.
